The story goes that when an orchestra went on strike, musicians had to find another way to continue performing, without their backing orchestra. And, so, the Singing Machine was invented to substitute for the orchestra. So it seems Necessity is indeed the Mother of Invention, as they say!
Popularity of the Karaoke Machine grew, as savvy entrepreneurs saw the opportunity to create a whole new version of the Sing Along… By marketing this new Singing Machine. In the 70s, the Karaoke Machine began showing up in bars and hotels around the globe. And they required significant set up time.
With the invention the digital-age Singing Machine, Karaoke backing tracks could now be downloaded onto the machine. Without physical CDs, the machines became much smaller… More Portable… And even more popular. And the evolution of Karaoke doesn’t stop there.
